Aniseed and Honey

Soothing Hot Tea

4 to 5 people - 200ml portions

Shai – Tea is at the heart of Middle Eastern culture, It’s a welcome start to the morning, a refreshing boost in the afternoon or a soothing, warm end to a busy day. We drink it in gatherings or in solitude, whatever the setting is, it’s a time to be treasured. There are different blends and combinations that my family use, but I mostly enjoy the Aniseed and Honey tea for its lovely flavour and supposed healing properties.

Ingredients

  • 1 litre of room temperature water
  • 2 level tablespoons of Aniseed
  • Honey to taste

Method

  • Use a heat safe teapot, one that you can place on your stove top.
  • Fill 1 litre of tap water
  • Add the aniseed to the pot and allow it to come to the boil
  • Reduce the heat so its gently bubbling and let it brew for 5 minutes
  • Using a strainer pour the tea into desired tea cups making sure the seeds are captured by the strainer
  • The colour of the tea should be a light yellowy colour similar to chamomile tea.
  • Add honey to taste and enjoy

Tips

  • For a stronger flavour you can brew for an additional five minutes.
  • You can re-use the aniseeds for a second time, provided it’s on the same day.
  • As with any other tea products, consume in moderation.
